Recorders Office will be closing Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm and will reopen Monday, November 27, 2023 at 8:00 am


Public Computer Use

Appointments will be required to use the public computers, please call 574-235-9525 to schedule. Sessions are limited to one hour.  There are NO appointments available between Noon and 2 pm, Monday thru Friday.

Please include your name, phone number, return envelope with postage when mailing in documents and appropriate fees. 

Fees must be in guaranteed funds - Cash, Money Order or Bank check (no personal checks)

Office Hours Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, recording stops at 4:00 pm, public computers are shut down at 4:20 pm 

About the Recorder

The Office of Recorder was the first office established by the constitution of the State of Indiana in 1816.

Recorder Responsibilities

The United States Constitution provides every individual the freedom and right to own property in their own name. That freedom is protected by the County Recorder as it is our responsibility to maintain permanent public records of legal instruments involving real estate , deeds, mortgages, liens, leases, plats, military discharges, personal bonds and several others. All of these instruments are recorded for safekeeping and future reference and for giving legal notice of their existence. Storage methods to record these documents include paper, microfilm and digital storage. The recorder of deeds provides a single location in which records of real property rights are recorded and may be researched by interested parties.

County Commission on Public Records

The Recorder is a member of the county commission on public records, which has authority over the preservation or disposition of all public records maintained by the county.
