St. Joseph County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) Team provides a pool of emergency communications personnel that can be called on in time of need. RACES groups across the country prepare themselves for the inevitable day when they will be called upon. When a local, state, or national government agency activates a RACES group, that RACES group will use its resources to meet whatever need that agency has.
St. Joseph County RACES volunteers provide the following services to the community:
Emergency communications to public safety response agencies
Emergency operations center communications
Medical disaster communications
Severe weather spotting
To volunteer for St. Joseph County RACES you must be a licensed ham radio operator, 18 years of age or older and fill out a volunteer application which can be sent to St. Joseph County Emergency Management.
